Primordial Integrates Route Planning Application into Next-Generation Dismounted Warrior System

Primordial successfully integrated its Ground Guidance route planning application into the Land Warrior system using the EDGE Warrior Software Development Kit (SDK). The Warrior SDK was developed by General Dynamics C4 Systems to enable third parties to quickly and independently integrate their software services and applications into the overall dismounted warfighter system. This reduces the cost of integration and allows capabilities to be brought to the Soldier more rapidly.

Primordial is a leader in off-road navigation software. Its flagship product, Ground Guidance, is patented software that plans a fast or concealed route through off-road terrain. Primordial and General Dynamics C4 Systems teamed together to integrate the Ground Guidance application into the Land Warrior Mission Data Support Equipment (MDSE). The MDSE is the next-generation mission planning system for the dismounted warfighter. Scheduled for deployment with the 5/2ID Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) in 2009, the MDSE is based upon an open framework, service-oriented architecture (SOA) specifically built for seamless commonality at the enterprise, enclave and embedded levels.

Primordial seized the opportunity to use the EDGE SDK to quickly and inexpensively integrate its intelligent software application into the MDSE. Using the SDK benefited Primordial in two ways. First, with less than two person-weeks of effort and little assistance from General Dynamics, Primordial was able to perform the integration and produce a demonstration of the resulting capability. Second, it allowed the EDGE project to be considered for addition to the Army's official Land Warrior contract, of which General Dynamics C4 Systems is the prime. The new capability allows a Land Warrior mission planner to point-and-click a starting point, end point, and any desired waypoints, and the intelligent software automatically determines fastest or most concealed route.

"By using the EDGE software development kit, Primordial quickly integrated our application to produce an improved route planning capability," said Randy Milbert, president of Primordial. "The resulting application will enable a better, safer mission plan for the dismounted warfighter." The results of the project have already been demonstrated to the Army customer, including the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army and representatives of Project Manager – Soldier Warrior (PM SWAR). Feedback has been extremely positive and promising.

Plans are underway to present the capability to the 5/2ID command staff for consideration for deployment in 2009 as part of the Land Warrior MDSE configuration. Additionally, several other follow-on projects are on the drawing board for expansion of capabilities via joint EDGE projects between Primordial and other EDGE members such as Concurrent Technology Corporation.
